Any suggestions for 1 week family holiday in Thailand with 2 teenage boys in tow?

Posted on 06 August 2011 by admin

We are looking at a 2 week trip in early December to include 2 days in Singapore, 5 night cruise of Malacca Straits and then a week in Thailand. Never been to any of theses spots before. Not sure whether to just stay put at a beach resort in Thailand or try to see a bit of the county. We will have 2 teenage boys with us.

You could ask the kids what they would prefer. Beaches, riding elephants, rafting, visiting parks, tiger shows – lots of stuff they might care to see!

An extended stay in the Kanchanaburi area where the "Bridge on the River Kwai" tours go to would give you a chance to see elephants, ride rafts, River Kwai Bridge, Hellfire Pass, museum, etc.

A flight to Phuket would give you some beach time. While there you could visit "James Bond Rock" and some of the islands.

You could wrap your trip around what the kids like. With one week in Thailand I would have at least the first night or two in Bangkok and the last night back in Bangkok for shopping. This would give you the rest of the days in between for tours or trips.

From Bangkok you could fly to Chiang Mai. Tour the night market, shop and check out the local travel agents for tours to the Golden Triangle area, hill tribes, Long Neck Villages, and see some elephants too!

In Bangkok you can sign up for tours at travel agencies. Almost all of the travel agencies will have a sample book of tours for you to choose from.

You will be around water a lot when you are on the boat for the 5 nights. Maybe something that is not always on water will be a treat. Lots of options in Thailand.

Good luck on your trip.

What are the rules applying to people that are taking gemstones and jewellery home from holiday in thailand?

Posted on 24 July 2011 by admin

I am training in silversmithing and wish to buy some gemstones and other jewellery from reputable sources that I can find in thailand. If anything over a certain amount attracts taxation then what is the amount and how much is the taxation? Has anyone ever bought anytrhing like this in Thailand before? Any words of warning? All advice appreciated, thank you

You’re going to love Thailand. The limit is $10,000. If you are purchasing with the intent to sell, taxes definitely apply, but I am not sure what the percentage is.

Buying gemstones. Here’s the secret: Chantaburi. All anybody is doing there is buying and selling gemstones. But this place is not for the faint of heart nor the casual buyer. These are where serious dealers go. I learned a lot from sitting at other people’s tables and watching.

The second best place is Silom road in Bangkok. But in both of these places, you need to know what you are doing. You can get ripped off or the best deals – even from the same store, depending on how they size you up.

Learn about Thai culture and try to take a course in gems. If you can’t take a course, then read every page on this website. Lots of info on how to get good deals on gems.

is it easy for a filipina to get chinese visa in thailand?

Posted on 11 July 2011 by admin

i am filipina and planning to go thailand for holiday but i dont know if it is easy for me to get chinese tourist visa there.

If you want to apply for a chinese visa when you are in Thailand, just go to Chinese Embassy on Ratchada Road. I don’t think there is much different between Thais and Filipinos. It seems quite easy to get a chinese visa. Just prepare one photo, passport and 1,000 baht fee then fill out the form. Then they will tell you when to get your passport back with Visa. That’s it.

For more information, you can visit the official website:http://www.chinaembassy.or.th/eng/

Advice for a two week holiday in Thailand?

Posted on 22 June 2011 by admin

Hi , my girlfriend and I are going to Thailand at the end of the month for a two week holiday and I was looking for some advise on what to bring, clothes, money ect. Thanks for any advice!

Come up to Chaing Rai, it is a beautiful area with hot springs waterfalls, rivers, hill tribes, elephants. Monkeys, a slower pace of life than Bangkok or the husstle of the touristy south or islands.
We have limestone caves, the gloden triangle, fantastic people , and oh yea my wife has a small thai restaurant near the sports stadium, and 20% of the profits go to buy shoes for the poorer kids in the area. P.S. she is a good cook. And the cashier on the weekends is my 16 year old step daughter (tip her big). LOL
it is a great area with very little in the way of girley bars, but there is nightlife. family safe and inexpensive. Also cool in the winter,
